Multiple Roots of Fruiting Body Formation in Amoebozoa
Establishment of multicellularity represents a major transition in eukaryote evolution. A subgroup of Amoebozoa, the dictyosteliids, has evolved a relatively simple aggregative multicellular stage resulting in a fruiting body supported by a stalk. Protosteloid amoeba, which are scattered throughout the amoebozoan tree, differ by producing only one or few single stalked spores. Thus, one obvious...
متن کاملRegulation of Fruiting Body Formation in Coprinopsis Cinerea
Fruiting body formation in the edible dung fungus Coprinopsis cinerea is regulated by environmental cues (nutrients, temperature, light, humidity), physiological conditions (mycelial status, age) and genetic control elements (e.g. A and B mating type genes, dst1 and dst2 genes for light regulators). Fruiting body development consists of a series of defined steps occurring in a concerted process...
متن کاملStable Formation of Fruiting Body in Cordyceps bassiana
In order to breed a Cordyceps bassiana isolate that stably forms fruiting body in artificial cultivation, isolates derived from subculturing and single spores were tested through mating. From C. bassiana EFCC 783, three subcultured isolates EFCC 2830, EFCC 2831 and EFCC 2832 were obtained and fourteen single conidial isolates were obtained from these three subcultured isolates. Two different mo...
متن کاملIsoprenoids are essential for fruiting body formation in Myxococcus xanthus.
It was recently shown that Myxococcus xanthus harbors an alternative and reversible biosynthetic pathway to isovaleryl coenzyme A (CoA) branching from 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA. Analyses of various mutants in these pathways for fatty acid profiles and fruiting body formation revealed for the first time the importance of isoprenoids for myxobacterial development.
متن کاملPattern formation: fruiting body morphogenesis in Myxococcus xanthus.
When Myxococcus xanthus cells are exposed to starvation, they respond with dramatic behavioral changes. The expansive swarming behavior stops and the cells begin to aggregate into multicellular fruiting bodies. The cell-surface-associated C-signal has been identified as the signal that induces aggregation. Recently, several of the components in the C-signal transduction pathway have been identi...
